Permanent Residency

A Canadian permanent resident is someone who has been granted permanent resident status by immigrating to Canada. A permanent resident is not a Canadian resident

To keep your permanent resident you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years. These 730 days don’t need to be continuous. Some of your time abroad may count towards this calculation.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for a PR Card, you must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Canada
  • Be physically present in Canada
  • Meet the residency requirement
  • Not be under an effective removal order
  • Not be convicted of an offence to the misuse of a PR Card
